New Year...New Me...yet again...

Everyone does this every year. We're no exception to that. In the New Year we're going to do this, that, the other... and usually it falls flat on its face within a matter of weeks and we're back to the old ways. Does that sound familiar? One of my  Must Do's for 2017 is to cut down sugar (hands up if you're with me there!) But as I write I'm munching on chocolate digestives and washing them down with a coke, so we're not really off to a good start!

This time though I haven't given myself much choice. Not just on the less sugar consumption, which I'm hoping is going to be a symptom of a general lifestyle change. mainly because I NEED a lifestyle change. Money needs to be saved if I have any hope of achieving the things I want to this year. So I'm off on a journey into frugality, hopeful that by the end of 2017 I will be able to sit with my family and we will be content with what we've achieved this year.

We're starting with a Blessing Jar. The idea is that every time something happens that makes you happy, you write it down and put it in the jar. At the end of the year you can read them out to each other and remember all the good things that happened instead of the bad. Staying positive and counting your blessings. Well it's a start!

It couldn't be easier to make. It's just a jar with a screw top lid. I got one from a local pound shop, but you could just as easily use an old jam jar or coffee jar.. And you can use anything to write on really, scraps of paper are easy to find. You can decorate it however you wish, ribbons, left over craft paper... use your imagination. We have left ours plain, as it's quite a pretty jar already.

I found this over at Slow Family to show you what I mean.

I've also been following The Diary of a Frugal Family, blog and on Facebook. I'm sure I'll be linking back to it often.
Here to start me off...and you if you wish to follow me..are 50 Tips to save from the frugal family blog...see how many of those we can set in motion.

Being frugal isn't just about saving money, it's about getting the most out of everything you have. I suppose that means life, too.
